Touring Superleggera launches new Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder

Touring Superleggera turns 90 and celebrates this important anniversary at the Geneva Motor Show with a brand new car, the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder.
Widely recognised as one of the iconic names in Italian car design and coachbuilding, Touring Superleggera was founded in 1926, producing custom built automotive bodywork with two distinct features - sporting elegance and lightness.
A bold interpretation of the open top car, the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder is fully devoted to the pleasure of riding with wind tousling one's hair. The two-seater open top car is based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Spider, chosen as the donor car for its light and stiff structure and oustanding dynamic properties. The Disco Volante Spyder has been technically developed with the support of Alfa Romeo, merging traditional hand beaten aluminium panelling to carbon fibre modelling.
The Disco Volante Spyder makes a bold design statement, which will outline Touring's future design language. The windscreen is low, sharp edged, without a visible top frame. This gives lightness and a more dynamic look to the car. The uninterrupted razor sharp edge continues through the side windows and fairings, encircling the whole car with a seamless and exciting trait. The Spyder also maintains most traits that made the Disco Volante an icon. The stylish covered front wheels give a sense of speed and sportiness, whilst the uncovered rear wheels highlight the more muscular details, giving the car a real sense of power. An innovative twin carbon fibre roof allows the car to have all the protection of a true coupe, while remaining beautiful, light and practical.
In line with Touring's philosophy for personal commissioning, all details of each car are dictated by the customer, such as the exterior paint and interior materials and colour. Touring also provides a bespoke suspension setup to match each customer's preference.
"The Disco Volante Spyder is the perfect example of the haute couture philosophy that made Touring a respected player in the luxury car scene in recent years," said Piero Mancardi, CEO.
Only seven examples will be built for discerning customers, and more than half have already been sold.
