Toyota has announced that it will be rolling out a series of upgrades for the 2024 GR 86 and has additionally unveiled a special GR 86 Trueno Edition.
The special edition model harks back to the Sprinter Trueno of the 1980s with its two-tone black bonnet and side panel graphic.
These will contrast against the available white or red exterior colours the car is being offered with, and pair with a black painted duckbill spoiler. The GR 86 Trueno Edition will additionally get a Trueno Edition badge on its front bumper lip and rear decklid, alongside Trueno Edition exclusive 18-inch 10-spoke aluminium alloy wheels.
In the cabin, the GR 86 Trueno Edition gets Ultrasuede sport seats, trimmed with red leather.
The car also gets a Trueno Edition shift knob, while an 8.0-inch touchscreen display that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a premium eight-speaker audio system also features. Those that opt to get their GR 86 Trueno Edition with the automatic transmission will get steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The GR 86 Trueno Edition also comes with a Performance Package, which is also available for the regular 2024 GR 86 models, and available as a retrofit for any GR 86 from the 2022 or 2023 model years.
This package comes with ZF Sachs dampers and Brembo brakes specially tuned by Toyota Gazoo Racing for the GR 86.
Also new for the regular GR 86 models equipped with the manual transmission is an upgraded Active Safety Suite. The car now gets a stereo camera to monitor the road ahead, and comes with features including Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning. These features were previously only available of models equipped with the automatic transmission.
A total of 860 units of the GR 86 Trueno Edition will be built for the U.S.A.
