Toyota has revealed plans to unveil its new sports car concept - the Toyota S-FR concept - at this month's Tokyo Motor Show.
The concept continues the proud heritage of Toyota's fun-to-drive lightweight sports cars. Pitched as an entry-level model, the new concept emphasises responsiveness, and aims to make a whole new generation fall in love with driving.
The concept's compact body is incredibly light, yet offers a smooth driving style, pairing the simplicity of an entry-level model with an intimacy that brings human and machine closer together. It also features the FR (front engine/rear drive) format, similar to the GT86, Toyota's touted affordable sports car. A six-speed manual transmission offers smooth acceleration, adding to the car's fun, responsive drive.
Toyota has yet to specify what engine will power the S-FR, but if (and hopefully when) it makes it to production, it will likely sit underneath the GT86 and compete with other small sports cars like the Mazda MX-5.
