All models of the Pixi Space are powered by a 660cc naturally-aspirated petrol engine, except for the Custom RS which has a turbocharged 660cc unit. The Pixi Space comes standard with continuously variable transmission (CVT) and is offered with either front- or all-wheel drive.
The Pixi Space marks Toyota’s entry into the Japanese “kei” car market, despite having previous presence through Daihatsu. Under Japanese regulations, a “kei” car be must be powered by an engine with a displacement of less than 660cc and measure up to 3.4 metres long, 1.48 metres wide and 2 metres tall. “Kei” cars attract lower taxes and insurance rates, and are exempt from local requirements to verify that adequate parking is available for the vehicle.
The Pixi Space was developed by Toyota’s partner Daihatsu, and is available in various specifications. The base level is available in "L" and "X" trims, while the sportier-looking version comes in "Custom X", "Custom G" and "Custom RS" variants.
