They were cheap. They were fast. They won a bunch of races. And, they were blue. Very blue.
To the French, driving a Gordini Renault was Magnifique! Perhaps, that's why Renault sold over 200,000 of the blue and white Gordini's.
Well, the "baby-boomer" marketing execs at Renault have decided to relive their youth by introducing the Gordini name to a whole new generation of young drivers.
Renault's Senior VP of Global Marketing called the Gordini cars "an affordable means to indulge in the enjoyment of sporty motoring".
The 2010 Renault Twingo Gordini RS has been modified by RenaultSport to produce 133 bhp from its tiny, 1.6 litre engine. Underneath, the Twingo rides on either the Sport chassis, or the crisp Cup chassis.
In either form, the little Twingo Gordini is real life pocket rocket.
Sadly, the Gordini edition is merely a trim package. But, since in-house tuner RenaultSport already did such a fine job on the little Twingo, Amadeo Gordini would probably approve.
Since the Gordini Twingo and Gordini Clio have been so well received, Renault is reportedly preparing a Gordini version of the hot Magane RS. The new Wind roadster is also going to get the "French touch" from RenaultSport. So, a blue & white Gordini edition will probably follow.
Even though Renault's new Gordini models wear Malte blue metallic, instead of the traditional Gordini blue. They have the same white racing stripes, and the same spirit as the original.
