Twincharged Beetle hits our shores
14 Mar 2013|8,245 views
The 21st Century Beetle - the sleekest, sportiest Beetle ever - has just been added with Volkswagen's multi award winning 1.4 TSI Twincharger engine, combined with an XDS electronic differential lock and a serious rear spoiler. The result is a whole new kind of sports coupe.
The unmistakable profile of the Beetle is further enhanced by 17-inch 'Rotor' alloy wheels wrapped with 215/55 tyres. The top surface of the rear spoiler is in gloss black, while its underside is painted in body colour.
Inside, a trio of additional gauges on top of the dashboard display turbo boost pressure, oil temperature and lap times, clearly stating this car's intent.
With 160bhp on tap and 240Nm of torque, the car gets from 0 to 100km/h in only 8.3 seconds with a top speed of 207km/h. The smooth seven-speed dual clutch DSG transmission delivers ultra crisp gear shifts, whether in full automatic mode or when using the paddle shifters.
Despite such impressive performance, the Beetle 1.4 TSI sips just 6.2L/100km in the combined driving cycle, equivalent to 143g/km of CO2. This qualifies it for a $5,000 CEVS rebate.
Among the standard features are a multi-functional leather steering wheel, RNS 510 touchscreen navigation system, KESSY keyless access and starting, Climatronic two-zone climate control and Park Distance Control with both front and rear sensors.
The Beetle 1.4 TSI is priced at $150,300 with COE (at press time). Catch it - if you can - at any Volkswagen Centre Singapore from 16 March 2013.
