The U.K. has seen its first publicly available sustainable petrol, designed specifically for classic vehicles, go on sale.
Launched by bespoke fuel firm Coryton, the Sustain Classic range comprises of three different fuels. The fuel range is said to comprise from at least 33% sustainable content to at least 80%, with the fuel with the highest sustainable content promising a reduction of at least 65% in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to conventional fossil fuels.
All these fuels are made second-generation biofuel manufactured from agricultural waste, including straw, as well as by-products or waste from crops which wouldn't be used for consumption. And as the plant material that goes into the fuel has already absorbed carbon that exists in the atmosphere, the fuels are said to recycle carbon, rather than releasing additional CO2 that is currently locked underground which happens when we burn fossil fuel.
With an octane number greater than 98 and a bio-ethanol content of less than 1%, the Sustain Classic range has been tailored for classic vehicles, although Coryton states that any vehicle that runs on standard petrol will be able to run on this line of fuels. The range also comes with a premium additive package included, which stabilises and extends the life of the fuel and helps clean and protect the engines.
