Volkswagen celebrates 50 years of Polo with special livery
11 May 2025|86 views
For the Polo's 50th anniversary, Volkswagen seems to be pulling out all the stops. First, a special exhibit at the Bremen Classic Motorshow. Next up, a special miniature car train (1:87 scale) at the 'Miniatur Wunderland', a popular tourist attraction in Hamburg. Now? A special Harlequin-themed race livery.
Shown to the public for the first time at Bicester Motion's springtime Scramble event, the unique paintjob was revealed on a Polo R World Rallycross (WRX) show car - a replica of Johan Kristoffersson's all-conquering multi-championship winning FIA WRX car.
Four distinct liveries were originally available for Volkswagen fans to choose from as part of a global online poll - all inspired by the popular and quirky Polo Harlequin special edition in the 1990s. The winning paint scheme, chosen via social media, features a 1980s-style pop-art pattern and the original Harlequin car colours: Chagallblau (blue), Flashrot (red), Ginstergelb (yellow), and Pistazie (pistachio).
Four other Polo models were also on display: An original Polo GLS Mk1 from 1975 in Inari silver, a Cherry red Polo Mk2, a current generation Polo Black Edition, and a sporty Polo GTI in blue and black.
