Volkswagen Golf R and Scirocco R go on sale

Both R models uses the same four-cylinder, 2.0 litre turbocharged TSI engine. The Golf R's powerplant produces 265bhp and 350Nm of torque, while the unit in the Scirocco R has abot 260bhp.

Both cars are electronically limited to 250km/h, and Volkswagen claims that fuel economy has been improved, with the Golf R using about 21 percent less fuel. The Golf R also gets new, unique LED front and rear lights.

Both cars have special R-line design packages unique to the range, which include 17-inch alloy wheels, new bumpers, updated rear spoiler, and a glossy grille. Interior R-line bits include sport seats, sport pedals and steering wheel.
