Volkswagen has revealed the all-new Tiguan SUV.
The car is said to so get a more expressive exterior than before, thanks to the use of new flat LED head lights connected by a glass-covered horizontal strip. These will be available with Volkswagen's IQ.Light HD matrix technology, which utilises 19,200 multipixel LEDs per head light.
The car also now gets the air needed for cooling solely via the intakes located at either side of the front bumper instead of a front grille. This move, Volkswagen claims, has contributed to the car's low drag coefficient of 0.28 (the outgoing Tiguan has a drag coefficient of 0.33).
The new Volkswagen Tiguan also gets more athletic shoulders that sit above its wheel arches, while at the rear, the angular taillights can now be connected via a horizontal light strip.
In the interior, the changes are more dramatic. A large, 15-inch infotainment screen now immediately grabs your attention, sticking out above the dashboard (A 12.9-inch infotainment display is offered as standard). This will come paired with a 10.3-inch digital instrument display.
The centre console also now features a rotary knob, which can be used to adjust the vehicle's driving profile, the volume of the speakers, or the interior ambient lighting colour. A host of vehicle and infotainment functions can also be adjusted via a voice assistant system.

All models of the Tiguan will come with gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel, while the gear selector now takes the form of a lever mounted on the steering wheel column.
Volkswagen states that the height, width and wheelbase of this new model remains practically identical to its predecessor. However, an increased total length of 30mm has contributed to a 37-litre increase in total available boot space, bringing the new total to 652 litres.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is set to be offered in Europe with a host of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid drivetrains. These include a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to a mild hybrid system that develops either 129bhp or 148bhp. A 2.0-litre engine which develops 201bhp or 261bhp will also be available, with the option to be paired to Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
The plug-in hybrid drivetrains will also offer either 201bhp or 268bhp. These will utilise a 1.5-litre engine and a new 19.7kWh battery, allowing them to deliver an electric-only range of up to 100km. This battery can be charged at up to 50kW via a direct current charger.
Reining in all this power in the Tiguan is the firm's Dynamic Chassis Control system, although a DCC Pro system is also available as an added option - imbuing the Tiguan with two-valve shock absorbers. This chassis control system can brake specific wheels and deliver selective changes to shock absorbers hardness for greater comfort or enhanced performance during dynamic cornering.
The new Tiguan is expected to arrive in Singapore equipped with a mild hybrid drivetrain in the first quarter of 2024.
