Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid arrives in Singapore

The Touareg Hybrid features a 3.0-litre V6 TSI supercharged direct-injection petrol engine, mated to an electric motor that is powered by a nickel metal-hydride (Ni-MH) battery, and the two power units combine to produce a total of 380bhp and 580Nm of torque.

Together with an 8-speed automatic transmission that has been customised for the hybrid engine as well as off-road use, the Touareg Hybrid is able to go from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 240km/h. The Touareg Hybrid is also able to travel on the electric motor alone for a distance of 2 kilometres at a speed of 50km/h.

As such, the Touareg Hybrid offers class-leading fuel economy, with a quoted fuel consumption figure of just 8.2 litres per 100km. The electric motor also helps to reduce emissions when the petrol engine is not in use, while other environmentally-friendly features include a regenerative braking system, which recovers kinetic energy during braking and stores it into the battery, and a stop-start system for improved fuel economy in urban and city traffic.
