Volvo ES90 to utilise 800V architecture

Just a day after Volvo announced the official launch date of the ES90 sees the firm now revealing that the upcoming electric sedan will sport an 800V architecture.

The high-voltage architecture, Volvo states, will give the ES90 the ability to add up to 300km of range with just 10 minutes of charging at a 350kW fast charging station, and to deliver a WLTP total range of up to 700km. Volvo additionally adds that the car will make use of a new in-house-developed battery management software, which will cut the time it takes to perform a 10% to 80% charge by 30% compared to its previous cars.

The use of an 800V architecture also allows the vehicle to utilise lighter motors and supporting components, reducing the vehicle's overall weight and increasing energy efficiency.
