The Volvo S80, V70 and XC70 (top), offer lower fuel consumption rates and CO2 emissions. The fuel consumption of the 115bhp, four-cylinder D2 diesel unit in the new Volvo S80 is 29.2km/L, with class leading emissions of just 109g/km. Likewise in the new Volvo V70, the D2 unit sips an average of 27.9km/L, with CO2 output of 112g/km.

The HMI (Human Machine Interface) functionality Sensus allows the 7-inch display to be used with gloves - a first for cars. Occupants can also connect to the Internet via a car mounted dongle or a mobile phone for a number of features including Internet streaming of music, full Internet browsing (except when driving), online Google Maps with Google Search and free Parking locator, among other services.
While not useful in our sunny tropics, cars equipped with a rain sensor can also be equipped with an electrically heated windscreen for rapid de-icing on winter days. A three-spoke heated steering wheel is also available as an option on all engines/specification levels.
On the cosmetic side of things, all three cars have redesigned bumpers, chrome details, Daytime Running Lights and redesigned tail lights for a contemporary and elegant look across the board.

The second generation Volvo S80 was introduced back in 2006 and has finally undergone a mid cycle refresh. Rectangular Daytime Running Lights provides the S80 with a more contemporary look, while the slightly redesigned rear lights visually pulls the car to the tarmac.
Volvo claims that the S80 Executive interior offers the highest level of all inclusive luxury, blending craftsmanship with technology. The S80 is offered from two chassis types - Comfort Chassis and Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept).
The new Volvo V70 and XC 70
Volvo is no stranger to the stationwagon market, having produced wagons from as early as 1953. The Volvo V70 marries form and function rather well, and if we may add, looks a lot like the S80 - just longer. This uber spacious estate offers an impressive 575 litres of cargo space, which can be expanded to a vast 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded flat down.

The XC70 has a bolder front bumper and a bigger ironmark on top of Daytime Running Lights and added matte silver touches. The XC70 is available with wheels up to 19-inch in diameter.

A number of new design cues differentiate the more rugged XC70 to its more 'softer' V70 sibling. The XC70 also features improved off road design cues such as skidplates that protects the car on uneven surfaces. The protective black body cladding is now extended to surround the front fog lights for a more purposeful feel.
