Volvo Trucks has launched its Euro 6 range in Singapore, ahead of Singapore's adoption of its new environmental standards for diesel vehicles, which starts on 1st January 2018. The launch of the Volvo Euro 6 trucks in Singapore bolsters the brand's commitment to shaping the future of the sector with continual breakthroughs in automation, connectivity, electro-mobility and alternative fuels.
Euro 6 is the highest engine emission standard set by the European Union and the National Environment Agency announced plans to adopt it in 2014. Following the launch, all new trucks sold by Volvo Trucks will have the Euro 6 engine, which reduces emissions of nitrogen oxide and particulate matter by 80 percent and 50 percent respectively.
The Euro 6 models packs new features to improve fuel economy and driveability. One such feature is the I-Shift technology, an automated manual transmission that uses built-in intelligence to quickly and automatically choose the right gear while driving. It takes into account real-time information about vehicle speed, acceleration, weight, road grade, torque demand and more, ensuring that every gear change is precise so the engine works at its most efficient rpm, saving up to five percent of fuel whether in economy or performance mode.
For more demanding and longer on-road operations, fleet owners can opt for the I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox. It has a unique and fast gear-changing system which enables power shift gear changes. This makes it possible to perform most single-step shifts with no interruptions in power and torque delivery during gear changing. The large ratio coverage of the gearbox provides high starting traction and lower fuel consumption.
Driving a Volvo Euro 6 truck is easy and more comfortable with the Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS). VDS is a patented and ground-breaking system that improves the truck's manoeuvrability, making driving more relaxed and safe. VDS combines hydraulic power steering with an electronically regulated electric motor fitted to the steering gear, making the driving experience is almost as easy as driving a car.
With safety being one of Volvo Truck's core values and a top priority, passive and active safety features continue to be offered in the Volvo Euro 6 Trucks. Active safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Emergency Brake, Electronic Braking system, Electronic Stability Program, Lane Changing Support, and Lane Keeping Support.
"At Volvo Trucks, our mission goes beyond providing trucks - we strive to drive progress," said Olivier Metzger, General Manager, Volvo Trucks Singapore. "To do this, we work hard to understand our customers and their needs, and we work closely with them to develop vehicle solutions that can help bring them closer to their business objectives. With our new range of Euro 6 trucks, we offer customers a sustainable solution that not only meets emission requirements, but also added benefits in safety, fuel economy and trouble-free ownership."
