Zeco Systems launches Singapore's first Solar Greenlots

Located at Singapore Polytechnic, Zeco's partner facility, Solar Greenlots is an expansion of Greenlots, a network of charging spots for EVs launched by Zeco in March 2009. While existing Greenlots at IKEA Tampines, IKEA Alexandra Road and INSEAD campus tap into the main power grid for fossil fuel generated electricity, the charging station at Singapore Polytechnic's campus generates clean electricity from solar energy.
The standalone off-grid solar charging station captures sunlight by means of four roof-mounted solar panels sponsored by REC. The Solar Greenlots generates an average of 3.15kWh per day and is able to charge two to four electric scooters per day. REC is planning to establish the world's largest solar manufacturing complex in Singapore and is partnering with Zeco to rollout its Solar Greenlots infrastructure.

Zeco introduced Singapore's first electric scooter earlier this year and kicked off its roadmap for an island-wide infrastructure of "re-fueling" stations for EVs with Greenlots, publicly available EV charging points located at hot spots across the island. Solar Greenlots is part of this expanding network that offers e-motorists convenient access to clean and affordable transportation.
Zeco plans to launch more Greenlots on the island and is already working with commercial partners to install on-site charging stations. The biggest factor for successful adoption for EVs in Singapore will be the establishment of Greenlots in public housing estates, where more than 80 percent of Singaporeans live. The company believes that an estimated 80 percent of Singaporeans will most likely charge their EVs at home; hence Zeco hopes to work closely with the support of the Housing Development Board to build an environmentally-conscious community through zero-emission urban living, as part of Singapore's Green Plan 2012.
