  • I've driven many Japanese and continental models, and is fair to say that the experience has been either you get more reliability over performance, or vice versa, but not both. This Infiniti hybrid machine comes very close to meet my quest for reliability and ultimate driving pleasure. Is frugal and yet powerful. Steering is responsive. Not to forget the extraordinary customer services that come with owning the car. My first service with them is so hazard free, deliver on time, and they even offer to drive the car to your office. And best part is I do not need to pay a cent for services up to 60,000 km mileage! Now this is first class service. What more can we ask?

Back in late August 2012, Infiniti set new records in the hybrid segment at the Santa Pod drag strip in the UK. The 364bhp luxury sedan was piloted by CAR magazine journalist Tim Pollard who set an average 0-400m time of 13.90 seconds and a passing speed of over 160 km/h.

The M35h was a standard production model combining a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with 305bhp to a 68bhp electric motor. Its 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 5.5 seconds went straight into the record books as the fastest hybrid sedan in the market today despite an average fuel consumption of 7.0L/100km while emitting 162g/km of CO2.

The Infiniti M Hybrid is a response to environmental concerns and tighter regulations on carbon emissions and fuel economy. With increasing pressure from Governments and environmental lobbyists, it comes to no surprise that hybrids are slowly, but surely, getting a more widespread appeal.

The closest rivals for the M35h are the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid as well as the Lexus GS450h. Unlike other conformist hybrids such as the Prius and the Insight which are commonly used as a benchmark for greener vehicles, the Infiniti would probably have a number of cynical souls giving very different opinions.

The Infiniti Hybrid is almost as fast as the range topping M56 and while it may be (fashionably) late for the hybrid creation in its line-up, it's clear that the brand wants to do things a little differently with the car both inside and out.

To be honest the styling has nothing new to and looks a tad too familiar, but there is a certain flamboyancy grinning through the bulging hood and low wide stance. The curvy fluid design language puts makes it arguably more attractive than what is on the market today.

Just like many other luxury cars, the M35h is showered with amenities such as cruise control, dual-zone air-conditioning, 10-way adjustable electric benches and infotainment system which include a USB connection port for iPod interface and other compatible devices.

But the two in-house features that give Infiniti the 'cut' are the air-conditioning seats that cool your butt down on a hot sweaty day and the Forest Air System that offers humidity and pollution control - selectable from the 8-inch touch screen display.

Space wise, the car offers a generous amount of space for five occupants, thanks to the decent wheelbase of 2,900mm. This sporty hybrid sedan has the capabilities of being an all-rounder green machine that's on the 'To Buy' list. Not only does it offer you space and efficient consumption figures, but the Infiniti M35h also gives you the option of embarrassing almost everything out there that is not powered by anything bigger than a V8.
