More than 70 cars have been shortlisted and sorted into 16 main, 5 special and 6 single categories in this year's competition, all in the name of recognising car manufacturers' efforts and creativity that brought their cars to a higher level in terms of design, efficiency, versatility, output and value for money.

Our judges will evaluate the cars based on a total of eight criteria.
The first seven criteria are based on the following:

» Average monthly views on model on Sgcarmart.com

» Average price

» Features (sunroof, push start button, smart key, electric seats, etc)

» Performance (cc, turbo, engine type, top speed, acceleration, etc)

» Fuel economy

» Size

» Safety features

The eighth criterion is where you guys, our readers, come in. In order to hold a fair competition, Consumer Voting will hold a massive 65% of the total score, which means your votes play a huge role in this competition

Our panel of judges is always on the hunt for perfection. So be sure to pay extra attention to detail and overall professionalism. We will be keeping a lookout for your votes.

Before you know it, it's already the fourth year of Sgcarmart's Cars of the Year. While we strive to improve and better what we were lacking the year before, one thing will always remain the same: The Editorial Team will do whatever it takes to ensure that our annual Cars of the Year remain just to our readers and nominees.

To our readers, it's important. After all, we dedicate our lives to do what we do to give you guys the latest juicy news, fun facts and relevant reviews – all at the comfort and convenience of your chosen location. This is also why you readers get to have a big say in this competition through voting.

For the nominees, who are also our local authorised dealers, they deserve to be treated fairly. They have been doing all they can throughout the year to do what's necessary to keep the industry alive and kicking by constantly bringing in spanking new cars.

This year, we have nominated over 70 different cars and have, once again, sorted them into categories as defined by parameters such as body type, size, price, design, efficiency, versatility, output and value for money. Of course, the same rule applies: Cars that were launched before 15th October 2013 will be qualified for Sgcarmart's annual Car of the Year competition.

If you haven't already realised, we have more special categories this year, too. Unlike our usual four, we have five unique categories, which give us more freedom to reward cars that are unique in their very own ways. On top of that, six additional single categories have been added into this year's competition.

We hope you are as every bit as excited as us about this year's Car of the Year, and we hope that this becomes a yearly ritual, whereby all in the local automotive industry, be it the consumers, dealers or the press, see this as an opportunity to relish in a well-deserved reward for their year's hard work.
