The Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG promises a sportier choice for buyers who are looking for a luxury SUV with provocative styling and enough muscle. Besides being a force on the roads, the GLE keeps in mind the practical aspects of an SUV with a spacious and comfortable cabin. And when you want to drive in an uneventful manner, the car is also a docile tarmac-gobbler, with plenty of low range torque from its V6 engine for easy city commuting.

Saw this super fierce looking SUV and had to have a go in it. Visually, it is no doubt very striking and aggressive. I'm not sure if i really like it, but i can see the appeal. It's definitely very sporty, almost un-SUV like. Cuts an extremely imposing figure on the road.» Read More
inside, its what i expect from a merc. Quality materials all around, a ton of technology everywhere. Its not the most spacious of cars though. One reason is the sloping roofline, which while makes the cut cut a very impressive figure on the outside, does compromise headroom on the inside.
it does drive well though. The engine is powerful, and despite the car's size and weight, carries the car briskly. Handling is quite good also, again considering its size. The car definitely strikes one with confidence, because you sit quite high up, almost towering over other cars on the road.
it's a slightly perplexing car to me, in the way it tries to straddle two quite different categories, but i can definitely see it appealing to some drivers.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG promises a sportier choice for buyers in the market for a luxury Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) with provocative styling and enough muscle to destroy almost anything in its wake. The loud and proud design statement of this performance SUV is a marriage of a coupe's sporty delineation and an SUV's commanding road presence.
If you're looking to turn heads, the GLE450 AMG's bubble-shaped flowing side contours, large wheel arches and elongated greenhouse will definitely get you noticed. Gaping air intakes, aggressive 21-inch wheels and a 1,700mm height are constant reminders that occupants are riding in a sports, not an off-road, car. Many of Mercedes' quality elements can be found within the coupe's cabin, including AMG's sports seats in the front and three-spoke sports steering wheel wrapped in black Nappa leather.
The car's Bi-Turbocharged V6 puts out 362bhp and 520Nm of torque to all four wheels, pulling it way ahead of its competition and into the top spot for this year's performance SUV category. It is also a docile tarmac-gobbler, with plenty of low to mid range torque from its V6 engine for easy city commuting.
Mercedes' nine-speed automatic transmission is paired to the monstrous V6 engine and switches from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde, depending on the mode set by the 'Dynamic Select' controller, which also dictates the SUV's steering weight, suspension and throttle response. Modes available on the 'Dynamic Select' controller are - Individual, Sport Plus, Sport, Comfort and Slippery.
Sport and Sport Plus modes on the coupe SUV smoothen out its gearshifts and turn up its aggressiveness, with a more weighted steering and firmer suspension. It sticks to the ground upon acceleration and steers decisively. We recommend leaving it in Sport Plus mode, which turns the exhaust into a seductive backfiring machine, in addition to the performance boosts.
