Mercedes-AMG has revealed its safety cars of the 2022 Formula One season. A Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will be serving as the safety car, while the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4Matic+ will serve duty as the official medical car.
Both cars are claimed to be heading onto the track nearly stock, however, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will be absent of the safety car's iconic roof-mounted lightbar. Instead, the necessary warning lights are fitted to the top of the car's front windscreen and rear spoiler, so as not to interfere with its aerodynamics.
In the cabin, you'll also note the fitment of a lightweight roll cage made from bolted tubular titanium, part of the optional Track Package offered with the AMG GT Black Series. The fitment of six-point safety harnesses as regulated by the FIA, as well as additional screens for occupants to keep tabs on race events here allow the car to perform its duties.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63S 4Matic+ meanwhile, will ferry Formula One's Medical Rescue Coordinator Dr. Ian Roberts and ensures that doctors can reach any accident site as quickly as possible and immediately start administering first aid.
The AMG medical car sports the traditional light bar on its roof, although it sits on a specially designed carbon fibre scoop to minimise wind resistance and direct air to the rear wing. The car also carries a full set of emergency equipment, including a defibrillator, breathing apparatus, rescue cutter and two handheld fire extinguishers in its rear boot.
Four individual racing bucket seats with six-point harnesses will ensure all first responders are held firmly in place within the Mercedes-AMG GT 63S 4Matic+ medical car.
