Mercedes has launched its EQE SUV, which serves as the multi-purpose variant of the EQE executive saloon. Like the EQE saloon, it is available with some of the innovations from the EQS SUV, while possessing greater dynamism.
The EQE SUV will boast 590km of range, and offer a wide range of power outputs, from 284bhp to 397bhp. Its lithium-ion battery consists of 10 modules. In certain cases, the battery management software, which was developed in-house, can be updated over-the-air.
The chassis of the new EQE SUV comprises a four-link suspension at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. Due to the relatively short wheelbase of 3,030mm and suspension tuning, Mercedes claims that the car will feel agile and manoeuvrable for a car in its class.
The EQE SUV also offers the possibility of activating additional vehicle functions via over-the-air technology in a number of areas. This means that after purchase and having chosen the original new car configuration, some of the EQE SUV's equipment can be individually customised.
A highlight of the interior is the optional MBUX Hyperscreen. With the zero-layer design, the user does not have to scroll through submenus or give voice commands. Situational and contextual applications are offered at the top level in the field of view. With the MBUX Hyperscreen, three displays merge into one another to create a screen band that is more than 55.5 inches wide.
The MBUX Hyperscreen will be an option for the EQE SUV, merging three displays into a single screen band which is more than 55.5 inches wide The front passenger in the EQE SUV also has the option of a 12.3-inch OLED display with its own user interface. The system uses a camera-based blocking logic that recognises if the driver is looking toward the front passenger display.
The EQE SUV will also come with Clever Route Planning, which helps the driver to plot the fastest and most convenient route, which can include charging stops if he desires. It also reacts to traffic jams or a change in driving style.
A thermal architecture with a heat pump will come as standard. The waste heat from the electric drive (inverter and electric motor) and also the high-voltage battery can be used to heat the interior. This reduces the draw on battery power for the heating system, thus increasing range.
