Mercedes-AMG has achieved a massive achievement with its Mercedes-AMG ONE, a car which production has been delayed on numerous occasions. Mercedes-AMG has reported that the car was taken around the Nurburgring Nordschleife on 28 October 2022, with racing driver and AMG Brand Ambassador Maro Engel, setting a stunning lap time of 6:35.183 minutes.
This means that the ONE is now the fastest road legal vehicle on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, and also the fastest in the famous track's 'super sports car' category.
The ONE managed to crack a staggering speed of 338km/h on the Nordschleife's longest straight, the iconic Dottinger Hohe Mercedes-AMG is also proud to announce that the ONE was not modified in any way which would make it faster on the track than its production version.
The two ONEs which were brought to the Nurburgring were inspected and documented by TUV Rheinland to ensure that they were in series production. A notary also confirmed the proper condition of the vehicles.
An interesting take away about the record setting lap by the ONE was that Race Driver Maro Engel used special energy management for the lap of the 20.8km Nordschleife.
This prevented him from accelerating to the maximum possible speed on all sections of the track due to having to manage the car's energy.
To do this, he used the four-stage Energy Flow Control of the ONE and let off the gas a little earlier in some sections, known as 'lift and coast'. In addition, Maro also used energy recovery in the braking phases. Thus, even on the long Dottinger Hohe, the high-performance battery still offered enough power for a 338km/h top speed.
