LTA hands out $700m worth of MRT contracts

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced a series of contract awarded for the construction of MRT lines yesterday - a total worth of $700 million.
The contract to build Caldecott MRT Station and its linking tunnels was awarded to Samsung C&T Corporation for a sum of around $285 million.
The next contract involves the construction of Thomson Line tunnels, as well as tunnels to link Woodlands South Station, and is awarded to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd. The project is worth around $421 million.
The series of contracts will see that seven kilometres of tunnels being built. Both projects will commence next month. The Caldecott Station is expected to complete by 2020, while the Thomson Line project is slated for completed in 2019.
The Caldecott Station will also function as an interchange connecting Thomson and Circle Lines.
