2011 has been an eventful year for the local automotive market. Rocketing COE prices meant that there was a dramatic wave of change in the motoring scene, as the Continental makes took over the market dominance from the traditional Japanese brands.
With high COE prices set to stay in the foreseeable future, carmakers are looking to hit back as they adjust to this new normal, bringing in highly competitive products to fight for the increasingly scarce consumer dollar.
We look at some of the offerings that are lined up for car buyers in the year ahead.

Alfa Romeo

Arriving: Q1 2012
The Giulietta mixes superior comfort, enhanced safety and cutting-edge technology, all in a stylish package. Powered by a 1.4-litre Turbo that churns out 170bhp, the Giulietta offers excellent performance, while at the same time rewarding occupants with roomy interiors and outstanding comfort with 5 comfortable seats
Audi

Arriving: 1st half 2012
The A4 gets a facelift for 2012, and the revised A4 gets Audi's new six-point grille and sharper looking headlamps with LED daytime running lights that form a narrow band, redesigned front and rear bumpers, plus tweaked tail lights that reflect the shape of the head lights and come with LED strips. There is also a new 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine available that produces 170bhp and 320Nm of torque.

Arriving: 1st half 2012
Audi has given its A5 range, including the coupe, convertible and A5 Sportback, a series of mild revisions for improved looks, driving dynamics and fuel efficiency. The biggest change is the new 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine, similar to the A4, that produces170bhp and 320Nm of torque. Cosmetically, the revised A5 gets minor changes, such as the re-sculptured “wave” LED headlamps that is now an Audi trademark. Other changes include the modified front grille, the redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes, a new rear bumper and tweaked rear lights with optional continuous LED light strips.

Arriving: 1st half 2012
The A6 Avant features the same bold, aggressive front look as its sedan brethren, while the rear design is endowed with a sporty, sloping roofline leading to an elegant rear end. The boot has a standard luggage capacity of 565 litres, which is expandable to a massive 1,680 litres when the seats are folded down.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The new S6 and S6 Avant will use a 4.0-litre TFSI twin-turbocharged V8 engine, and the unit churns out 420bhp and 550Nm of torque. The engine replaces the 5.2-litre V10 powerplant that was used in the previous S6. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Audi’s permanent four-wheel-drive system. This enables the S6 sedan to rocket from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds, and the S6 Avant hits that target in 4.9 seconds.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The S7 Sportback features the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 engine as the S6, which produces 420bhp and 550Nm of torque, allowing the car to go from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds. The S7 also features A seven-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission and Audi's Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a self-locking centre differential and torque vectoring, which transfer power to the ground. There's also an optional sport differential that distributes the power in variable proportions between the rear wheels.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The Audi S8 will be the biggest ‘S’ performance model in Audi’s range, and the luxury performance sedan will have a more powerful version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that is fitted to the S6 and S7 performance models. The unit in the S8 produces 520bhp and 650Nm of torque, and power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi's permanent all-wheel drive system. Audi claims that the S8 is able to hit 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, 0.6 and 0.7 seconds faster than the S6 sedan and S7 Sportback respectively.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The Q3 joins the Q5 and Q7 in Audi's range of off-roaders, and the new model will be pitted head-to-head against BMW's X1. The Q3's design is unmistakably Audi, with several design cues taken from Audi's Cross Coupe Quattro Concept that was shown at the 2007 Shanghai Motor Show. The Q3 features a sharper front design with wedge-shaped headlamps and a roofline that slopes gently towards the back for a more dynamic profile.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
Audi follows up the R8 GT with the R8 GT Spyder, which features the same 5.2-litre V10 engine and lightened body as the Coupe. The V10 unit has been upgraded with a modified ECU from the one on the standard R8 Spyder, and now produces 560bhp and 540Nm of torque, up from 525bhp and 530Nm on the standard car. An R-tronic sequential manual transmission and Audi’s Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a rear-wheel bias completes the setup.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The A1 Sportback adds two more doors to the chic and stylish A1 hatchback. While the A1 Sportback is identical in length and wheelbase to the 3-door A1, Audi has added 6mm to the Sportback’s height and width to improve interior space. The A1 Sportback also comes standard with four seats, but a fifth seat can be added at no extra cost. Boot space stands at 270 litres, expandable to 920 litres with the seats folded down.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The A6 Hybrid is Audi’s second hybrid model after the Q5 Hybrid Quattro, and its hybrid system combines a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that produces 211bhp with an electric motor that delivers 45bhp and 211Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a modified 8-speed Tiptronic transmission that sends torque to the front wheels.
Bentley

Arriving: Q2 2012

BMW

Arriving: Q1 2012
The new M5 is powered by a 4.4-litre twin turbocharged V8 engine that produces 560bhp and 600Nm of torque. This enables the new M5 to go from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 13 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic and an electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential. The new M5 is also fitted with an M-specific suspension, a lightweight compound high-performance braking system and an M-tuned Servotronic steering.

Arriving: Q1 2012
The all-new 3-Series, codenamed F30, is the sixth-generation of BMW’s popular compact executive sedan, which has sold over 12 million units since its introduction in 1975. The latest generation has grown in size from its predecessor, being 93mm longer in length and 50mm longer in wheelbase from its predecessor. This helps to improve passenger space, especially for rear passengers, and the new model now offers 15mm more legroom and 8mm more headroom for rear seat passengers.

Arriving: Q4 2012
The Gran Coupe is a four-door version of the 6-Series Coupe, and was evolved from the Concept Gran Coupe that BMW showcased at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2010. The new Gran Coupe marks BMW’s first foray into the premium four-door coupe segment, and goes head to head against its German rivals like the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS.
Chevrolet

Arriving: Q1 2012

It has been subjected to a tough development and validation process, and has been tested in the toughest conditions around the world. The Malibu nameplate appears on a global car for the first time ever for Chevrolet, and the mid-sized sedan features Chevrolet's trademark dual-port grille, projector HID headlamps, larger Chevrolet bow-tie badges front and rear, and new Camaro-inspired LED dual-element tail lamps.

Arriving: Q4 2012
The Sonic, which replaces the popular Aveo hatchback, will be launched in the later part of 2012. With its dynamic lines and ECOTEC 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, the Sonic is made to be on the move, and is the most fun to drive car in its class.
Chrysler

Arriving: Q2 2012
The new 300 replaces the 300C, and features styling details such as a new grille, LED headlights, a rakish windscreen, and sculpted bodywork. Inside, the new 300 receives improved materials for the interior, as well as other details such as blue ambient lighting and real wood trim.
Citroen

Arriving: Q1 2012
The new Citroen DS4 defies all norms - It's not an SUV, a coupe, or a sedan. It is a high-stance 4-door coupé designed for drivers looking for new automotive experiences and to stand out from the crowd. Since its release, the Citroen DS4 has won the hearts of both critics and public alike. It has claimed the Most Beautiful Car and Car Interior of the Year award at the 26th International Automobile Festival. In addition, it has also won the Auto Bild 2011 Design Award.

Ferrari

Arriving: Q1 2012
The new 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari’s mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out.
Honda

Arriving: Q1 2012
The latest generation Civic features an all new exterior design featuring a streamlined, expressive design with cleaner lines and a more energetic form. The interior has been redesigned to present a smart and futuristic cockpit embracing new, smart technologies with enhanced ergonomics. New i-VTEC engines offer a quieter and more refined drive, while at the same time enhancing fuel efficiency and comfort.

The new CR-V possesses a more aggressive stance compared to its predecessor thanks in part to the new roofline and tall rear lights incorporated into its rear end design. The interior has also been revamped, with a more premium feel and new multi-layered instrument panel gauges.

The Odyssey MPV gets a minor nip and tuck for 2012, with new chrome additions on the front and rear. The headlamps and taillights have also been mildly revised, while the interior has also been given a makeover for a more premium feel.

The Insight hybrid also gets a facelift for 2012, with a new grille, front and rear bumper and number plate chrome garnish among the changes. The biggest change though is a slightly revised powertrain, which results in better fuel economy and improved comfort. Hill Start Assist (HSA) is also now standard for the 2012 Insight.
Hyundai

Arriving: Q1 2012
The i40 reflects the spirit of change at Hyundai, and represents the company’s bold new concept of ‘modern premium’ – the philosophy that premium quality and characteristics should be accessible to everyone. Designed and engineered at Hyundai’s R&D headquarters in Russelsheim, Germany, the i40 is the latest Hyundai model to have a purely European identity, and is powered by a 2.0-litre MPI engine.

Arriving: Q1 2012
This 1.6-litre 1+2 coupe has a hidden door handle on the passenger side, and the car defies convention and how coupes should be. It offers convenience for backseat passengers to get in and out of the car without compromising on the overall look. The Veloster comes in bright trendy colours with matching rims.

The new-generation i30 is a vehicle the company expects will build on the success of the original model thanks to enhanced design, quality, performance and efficiency. Expected to launch in the early part of 2012 in Europe and will make its way to Asia soon after
Infiniti

Arriving: Q1 2012
Infiniti will be making its long-awaited return in early 2012, spearheaded by the M luxury sports sedan. With its distinctive rear-driven stance, long bonnet, deep body and muscular rear, the M exudes a dynamic posture, while the low-positioned grille completes the impression of a predator.

Arriving: Q1 2012
Joining the M will be the FX crossover, which is a highly distinctive luxury sports utility vehicle is embodied by craft, shaped by character and felt by the driver - from its wide stance to declarative details, flowing hood to sculpted headlamps. Kia

Arriving: Q1 2012
The lovable Soul will receive a facelift in the early part of 2012, with a new 6-speed transmission, LED daytime running lights and a choice of new fabric interiors all helping to liven up this cheery little car.
Lexus

Arriving: Q1 2012
Building on the excitement of the fourth-generation GS, Lexus introduces the GS Hybrid and GS 350 F Sport package to provide customers a new and exciting blend of performance and precision. The full GS line-up, including GS350, GS Hybrid and F Sport will be available in Singapore from early 2012.
Mazda

Arriving: Q1 2012
The facelifted Mazda3 will debut in the first quarter of 2012 in Singapore, and gets new more fuel-efficient engines that deliver lower CO2 emissions as part of its SKYACTIV efficiency program. There are also minor changes to the car’s exterior and interior, namely the new front bumper with the reshaped five-point grille, as well as revising the suspension settings to improve the car's handling.

The Mazda5 MPV gets a mild update for 2012, with its new looks featuring Mazda’s "Nagare Flow" design language, seen on previous Mazda concepts such as the Furai. Striking swash lines along the sides of the car, as well as Mazda’s family front-end marks the revised 5 from its predecessor.

The CX-5 is Mazda’s entry into the compact SUV market, and the car will compete against the likes of the new Honda CR-V, as well as rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage and Volkswagen Tiguan. The CX-5 is the first Mazda to fully encompass the Japanese brand's SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, which is a suite of powertrains and chassis architecture designed to save fuel and reduce emissions while retaining a sporty drive.
Mercedes-Benz

Arriving: Q1 2012
The drop-top version of the SLS AMG supercar has a three-layered soft-top fabric roof that does not take up any cargo space, leaving the boot at a standard 173 litres whether the roof is up or down. The roof can be operated at speeds of up to 50km/h, and can be raised or lowered in 11 seconds. Customers can also choose three colours for the roof, black, beige and classic red.

The new M-Class, launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, features an evolutionary design that is unmistakably M-Class, with its prominent front grille, sculpted sides and wraparound taillights. The interior has also been redesigned, with better quality materials and a dashboard inspired by the S-Class.

The new B-Class is bigger all-round than its predecessor, and features familiar Mercedes-Benz styling cues such as the front and rear lights, sporty-looking grille and prominent creases on the bodywork. Overall, the all-new B-Class has a more dynamic appearance, with its sleeker and sportier look.

The new SL, code-named R321, is the first mass-production Mercedes car built almost entirely from aluminum, with the same material used for the multi-link front and rear suspensions. As a result, its weight has been reduced by up to 140 kg compared to its predecessor. Using aluminum has not only reduced weight, but also increased agility providing sportier handling characteristics.

MINI

Arriving: Q2 2012
The MINI Roadster joins the Coupe in removing the rear seats of the conventional MINI Cabriolet, and re-clothes the MINI in a sportier-looking body. Born from the same chassis as the current MINI Cabriolet, the new Roadster will be powered by the same engines as the MINI Coupe range.

The ninth generation of Porsche’s classic sports car is codenamed the 991, and the car retains the familiar silhouette of its predecessors the 997, in a shape that has evolved through the model’s 48 year history. Although the external dimensions of the 991 are similar to the 997, the new 911 has new bodywork, a 100mm longer wheelbase and reduced height which, combined with the wider front track, the repositioned mirrors and the new headlights, gives the car a more dynamic look while still retaining the signature 911 shape.
Proton

Arriving: Q2 2012
Featuring a new Campro CFE (Charge Fuel Efficiency) engine, the new 1.6-litre turbo engine produces 140bhp and 205Nm of torque, and comes with a CVT gearbox for better power and fuel efficiency. The facelifted Exora also features numerous upgrades over the current model to provide a super value-packed yet affordable MPV for all motorists.

Featuring a new executive look, the Persona R is bigger in overall size and equipped with latest transmission, with features that are based on latest global trends. The Persona R gets higher equipment levels to better serve both the young individual & family needs.
Renault

Arriving: Q1 2012
The Fluence sedan has proven to be a hit with local buyers, and the car now gets electrified up with the new Z.E. (Zero Emissions) version, which will make it the first fully-electric sedan to go on mainstream sale in Singapore. The Fluence Z.E. is scheduled to arrive in Singapore by the first quarter of 2012.

The cracking Megane RenaultSport gets an upgrade for 2012, with engine enhancements making the RS265, as it will be affectionally known, the most powerful Megane to date. The car’s 2.0-litre turbocharged engine will be boosted to, as its name suggests, 265bhp.

The Floride is a special edition version of the Megane Coupe-Cabriolet, and features an exclusive pastel ivory exterior paint, a contrasting high-gloss, piano hue for the car’s folding hardtop, and retro-style Floride badging on the front wings.

The Grand Scenic makes its returns to Singapore shores, updated and better before. New for 2012 for this mid-sized people carrier is a redesigned front end with LED daytime running lights and gloss black features, chrome details up front, on the profile and the tailgate strip.

Joining the Fluence Z.E. in Renault’s electric line-up is the Kangoo Z.E., set to debut in Singapore in the third quarter of 2012. The lower running costs of the electric Kangoo van looks set to offer business owners a way into reducing vehicular operational expenses.
Subaru

Arriving: Q2 2012
The all-new Impreza was developed under Subaru's concept of "Redefining Value, Redefining Class", and it is claimed to be more fuel-efficient and fun to drive, while offering better interior space, despite having the same exterior dimensions as the outgoing model.

Arriving: Q2 2012
The BRZ is Subaru’s version of the much-awaited Toyota GT 86, with minor differences such as the re-sculptured front bumper, the alloy wheel designs, the fender trims and the tail lamp graphics. The BRZ is powered by a 2.0-litre flat-four engine developed by Subaru, which produces 200bhp and 205Nm of torque.
Suzuki

Arriving: Q1 2012
The sportier sibling of the Kizashi, the 176bhp K-Sport is equipped with lower suspension and a range of aesthetic finishes such as new front grills and rear spoiler to keep the adrenaline pumping.

Swift Sport
Arriving: Q2 2012
The highly anticipated Swift Sport will reach our shores in an all-new 6-speed gearbox. Now swifter and sportier, this hot hatch will definitely be a joy to handle especially when the road starts to curl and curve.
Toyota

Arriving: Q1 2012
The Prius C is the latest addition to Toyota’s Prius hybrid range, and the car features a compact and lightweight hybrid system that combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a high-output electric motor. Together, the combine power output of both the petrol engine and electric motor is 100bhp and 111Nm of torque.

Arriving: Q2 2012
The all-new Camry, renewed for 2012, is more powerful, yet delivers better fuel efficiency. The car has a more upscale interior with higher quality materials, while the styling is sharper than the outgoing model. Toyota also promises much better room all round for occupants in the new Camry.

Arriving: Q3 2012
The long-awaited GT-86 makes its debut in 2012, and is inspired by the legendary AE86 cult car. Toyota says that the GT-86 is the most compact four-seater sports car available in the market today, and with a new naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine under the bonnet, promises to be a true performance legend.
Volkswagen

Arriving: Q2 2012
The updated CC, which drops the Passat moniker for 2012, gets a redesigned front end which features a new chrome-trimmed grille, reshaped headlamps that incorporate a ring of LEDs and a reworked bumper. The rear meanwhile, gets new LED tail lamp, bumper and boot lid designs, while a fresh choice of colours and alloy wheel options round off the exterior updates.

The Beetle returns for its third generation, all grown up for 2012. Longer, wider and shorter than before, the all-new Beetle has a meaner and more aggressive stance. The interior too is sportier, with its flat-bottomed steering wheel, two glove boxes in the dashboard which opens up upwards and downwards, optional auxiliary instruments above the centre console and integrated audio and navigation systems with a 5-inch or a 6.5-inch screen.

The S7 Sportback features the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 engine as the S6, which produces 420bhp and 550Nm of torque, allowing the car to go from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds. The S7 also features A seven-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission and Audi's Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a self-locking centre differential and torque vectoring, which transfer power to the ground. There's also an optional sport differential that distributes the power in variable proportions between the rear wheels.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The Audi S8 will be the biggest ‘S’ performance model in Audi’s range, and the luxury performance sedan will have a more powerful version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that is fitted to the S6 and S7 performance models. The unit in the S8 produces 520bhp and 650Nm of torque, and power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi's permanent all-wheel drive system. Audi claims that the S8 is able to hit 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, 0.6 and 0.7 seconds faster than the S6 sedan and S7 Sportback respectively.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The Q3 joins the Q5 and Q7 in Audi's range of off-roaders, and the new model will be pitted head-to-head against BMW's X1. The Q3's design is unmistakably Audi, with several design cues taken from Audi's Cross Coupe Quattro Concept that was shown at the 2007 Shanghai Motor Show. The Q3 features a sharper front design with wedge-shaped headlamps and a roofline that slopes gently towards the back for a more dynamic profile.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
Audi follows up the R8 GT with the R8 GT Spyder, which features the same 5.2-litre V10 engine and lightened body as the Coupe. The V10 unit has been upgraded with a modified ECU from the one on the standard R8 Spyder, and now produces 560bhp and 540Nm of torque, up from 525bhp and 530Nm on the standard car. An R-tronic sequential manual transmission and Audi’s Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a rear-wheel bias completes the setup.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The A1 Sportback adds two more doors to the chic and stylish A1 hatchback. While the A1 Sportback is identical in length and wheelbase to the 3-door A1, Audi has added 6mm to the Sportback’s height and width to improve interior space. The A1 Sportback also comes standard with four seats, but a fifth seat can be added at no extra cost. Boot space stands at 270 litres, expandable to 920 litres with the seats folded down.

Arriving: 2nd half 2012
The A6 Hybrid is Audi’s second hybrid model after the Q5 Hybrid Quattro, and its hybrid system combines a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that produces 211bhp with an electric motor that delivers 45bhp and 211Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a modified 8-speed Tiptronic transmission that sends torque to the front wheels.

The new M5 is powered by a 4.4-litre twin turbocharged V8 engine that produces 560bhp and 600Nm of torque. This enables the new M5 to go from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 13 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic and an electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential. The new M5 is also fitted with an M-specific suspension, a lightweight compound high-performance braking system and an M-tuned Servotronic steering.

The all-new 3-Series, codenamed F30, is the sixth-generation of BMW’s popular compact executive sedan, which has sold over 12 million units since its introduction in 1975. The latest generation has grown in size from its predecessor, being 93mm longer in length and 50mm longer in wheelbase from its predecessor. This helps to improve passenger space, especially for rear passengers, and the new model now offers 15mm more legroom and 8mm more headroom for rear seat passengers.

There are also minor changes to the car’s exterior and interior, namely the new front bumper with the reshaped five-point grille, as well as revising the suspension settings to improve the car's handling.

The drop-top version of the SLS AMG supercar has a three-layered soft-top fabric roof that does not take up any cargo space, leaving the boot at a standard 173 litres whether the roof is up or down. The roof can be operated at speeds of up to 50km/h, and can be raised or lowered in 11 seconds. Customers can also choose three colours for the roof, black, beige and classic red.

Together, the combine power output of both the petrol engine and electric motor is 100bhp and 111Nm of torque.

The rear meanwhile, gets new LED tail lamp, bumper and boot lid designs, while a fresh choice of colours and alloy wheel options round off the exterior updates.

The Beetle returns for its third generation, all grown up for 2012. Longer, wider and shorter than before, the all-new Beetle has a meaner and more aggressive stance.
