Alpine reveals its all-new A390 'sport fastback'

The A390 is Alpine's all-new sport fastback (Alpine speak for a coupe-SUV) that was revealed in a ceremony at the brand's home in Dieppe, and was summed up by Alpine as "a racing car in a suit".
Beneath the A390's stylish skin, Alpine's engineers and developers have created a set of three electric motors (one at the front, two at the rear) that form an AWD system, a first for Alpine, which enables the development of the Alpine Active Torque Vectoring system, helping to enhance dynamism, safety, and agility.
The car measures just above 4.6 metres long, combining wider tracks for stability and exclusive forged aluminium suspension triangles - yet retains a relatively short wheelbase (at least by bespoke EV standards) of only 2,708mm for agility. Alpine states that despite the car's SUV-leanings, the A390 retains a low centre of gravity and ideal weight distribution, with 49% at the front and 51% at the rear, for sublime handling.
The A390 is the second model in Alpine's Dream Garage, following the A290 and preceding the future A110, and will also be 100% electric. Its Ampere electric platform and energy services for optimising home charging makes it part of a comprehensive electric ecosystem offering an optimal experience.
The car is being offered in two variants at launch, beginning with the A390 GT, which develops 396bhp and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 200km/h.
Range-topping performance comes with the A390 GTS, which is capable of 464bhp and 808Nm of torque, allowing it accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds. The GTS also has a higher top speed of 220km/h.
The car is also powered by what has been claimed to be a groundbreaking new 89kWh battery, developed specially for Alpine and to support the A390's performance. Alpine claims a WLTP-rated range of up to 555km with 20-inch wheels (presumably for the GT variant), with a heat pump offered as standard across the range. The battery also supports DC fast charging at up to 190kW for "extended periods".
Drivers will also be greeted with a high-tech cockpit when they climb aboard, with the crowning piece here being a single panoramic screen that houses two displays. While single panels are commonplace in the market today, the A390's setup remains rather unique; the central infotainment touchscreen is a vertical rather than horizontal 12.3-inch display that is angled rather dramatically towards the driver, for a more "immersive digital experience".
The A390 is designed and manufactured in France at Alpine's historic Manufacture in Dieppe; its electric motors are manufactured at the brand's Cleon plant; and its batteries will be using cells and modules that are produced in Dunkirk and assembled in Douai.
The A390 is further described as a true French Alpine through and through, right down to its exclusive tyres supplied by Michelin, and its Devialet audio system.
