This new SUV by Audi that you see here on this very page will go head on with the BMW iX, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and the Porsche Macan BEV when it arrives in Singapore at the end of this year.
According to Audi, the spanking new Audi Q6 e-tron, an all-electric SUV that sits nicely between the Q8 and Q4 e-tron models, is the latest vehicle that is set to be the best yet.
By the looks of it, we certainly cannot disagree. Styling is smart, simple and instantly recognisable. But it’s Audi's new lighting technology that undoubtedly steals the show. The new Q6 e-tron debuts new generation LED and OLED technology. Up front, the daytime running lights feature 61 programmable white LED segments on each side, while the rear lights share 360 triangular digital OLED segments that can display animated sequences that greet the driver when approaching or locking the vehicle.
This new LED technology allows you to choose one of eight different light signatures, and they'll warn other road users of imminent heavy braking, or they’ll even signal to an approaching pedestrian if a door is being opened.
On the inside, Audi managed to one up the electric models that came before it. For instance, the cabin appears more upmarket and cleaner, with physical buttons on the centre console limited to just the start/stop, gear selector, drive mode selector, hazard lights, ESC and a volume knob.
Elsewhere, you also get to enjoy an 11.9-inch instrument cluster that's merged with the sharp and crisp 14.5-inch curved touchscreen that Audi dubs 'digital stage'. An additional 10.9-inch is also nicely integrated into the dashboard for the front passenger to meddle with, if necessary.
Space wise, the Q6 e-tron does pretty well as a family vehicle. There’s space for three Asian adults to occupy the rear in reasonable comfort, while the 526-litre boot is bigger than the iX's 500 litre and the EQE SUV's 520 litres. To add icing on the cake, there’s a useful 64-litre frunk to store cables or other smaller items.
At its global launch here in Bilbao, Spain, there are several different variants of the car. Singapore, however, will be getting the rear-wheel driven single-motor Q6 e-tron, the dual-motor Q6 e-tron Quattro as well as the top-of-the-line RS Q6 e-tron.
Crucially, the rear-wheel drive single-motor Q6 e-tron model is capable of 288bhp and 430Nm of torque, which will allow the car to reach the 100km/h mark from nought in just seven seconds. It'll have an 83kWh battery that will have about 520km worth of range on a full charge. The dual-motor Q6 e-tron Quattro is expectedly more exciting. This model will churn out 380bhp and 580Nm of twisting force from the word go and it'll have a bigger 100kWh battery that will see to about 625km worth of range on a full charge. The car will sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Specifications for the RS Q6 e-tron are currently unknown.
The latter is indisputably the juiciest model while the single-motor variants will be arriving only in the first half of next year. We can expect the Q6 e-tron Quattro variant to arrive on our shores at the end of this year.
