German automaker has locked in their grand plan for the years ahead and ensuring they have work cut out by setting a 2020 goal to get its entire lineup to come with e-tron variants. An Audi e-tron refers to cars which are capable of travelling long distances solely on electric power. Should they reach the desired goal, Audi predicts that these e-trons will be sold in more than 100,000 units. It won't be an easy goal though as they currently only have a few prototypes in testing phase across various parts of the world. These upcoming production models will be available with various electric drive technologies, such as battery-powered EVs and extended-range vehicles.
The first in the e-tron production series is will be the R8 e-tron - set to hit the markets later this year. It has two electric motors that generate 308bhp and 820Nm of torque, powered by a 49kWh lithium-ion battery that allows the vehicle to perform a 0-100km/h sprint in under 4.6 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h. The R8 e-tron is reportedly able to go up to 215km on electric power alone.
