BMW Group Plant Steyr switches over to biogas

I need your clothes, your boots, and your biogas.

BMW Group Plant Steyr has made the switch to biogas instead of natural gas for its heating needs. And there to make the switch was the Arnold Schwarzenegger, alongside Milan Nedeljkovic, Board Member for Production at BMW AG.

The firm states that its heating needs are now provided by a biomass powerplant located just a kilometre away. This plant has received an additional 10MW biomass boiler to meet Plant Steyr's needs which is fuelled by wood chips from surrounding forests.

The Austrian-born star and professional Bodybuilder shut down Plant Steyr's gas supply and Nedeljkovic followed by turning on the final expansion to the plant's district heating supply at a symbolic event. Schwarzenegger then called on everyone present to act on climate change before he was brought on a tour of the Steyr site's training and education centre, engine assembly, and recently opened electric motor production line.

BMW states that the transition to purely district heating was initially expected to reach completion at the turn of the year between 2024 and 2025 but has now been realised two and a half months ahead of schedule.
