BMW unveils self driving research prototype that is capable of self drifting
09 Jan 2014|4,935 views
BMW has unveiled a research prototype that will highlight the effectiveness of a new generation of control systems on the track.
These systems actively intervene in the direction changing thought process and ensure the electronically controlled steering works in perfect harmony with the brakes and accelerator. As such they go a crucial step further than current systems, which react to the onset of understeer or oversteer with carefully calculated braking inputs.
While all that theory sounds good for physicits, we are still amazed at how BMW has engineered a research vehicle - in the guise of a M235i - that not only drives, but reacts as equally well, as any racing driver.
