The new 5-Series Touring will go on sale later this year, and BMW has given the station wagon lots of equipment, such as Dakota leather upholstery, matt aluminium roof rails, Park Distance Control, and Bluetooth connectivity. The 5-Series Touring has a cargo capacity of 560 litres, 60 litres more than the outgoing model. With the rear seats folded down, luggage space increases to 1670 litres. BMW even offers an Extended Storage package, which features more upright rear seatbacks that adds 30 litres of capacity by minimizing "wasted space" behind the rear seats.
Four engines will be available at launch, with the entry-level 520d having a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 184bhp and 380Nm of torque. This allows it to go from 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 222km/h. The 520d also has an engine Start/Stop system for better fuel efficiency. The next diesel engine is the 530d, which has a straight-six turbodiesel that produces 245bhp and 540Nm of torque. The 530d can go from 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds, on to its electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
For the petrols, there is the 523i which is naturally-aspirated and produces 204bhp and 270Nm of torque. This means the 523i Touring can go from 0-100km/h in 8.2 seconds, on to the electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h. The other petrol engine is the 535i, which is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine with 306bhp and 400Nm of torque, and can go from 0-100km/h in 6 seconds, on its way to its top speed of 250km/h.
All models get a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox available as an option. Other equipment available as options include Adaptive Drive, Park Assist, Active Steering, Surround View, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning, Speed Limit Info, and two rear entertainment packages.
