The Z4 GT3 race cars weighs 1200kg, mostly due to aggressive styling and performance components such as the front and rear wings, bonnet, roof, and fenders which are all constructed out of carbon fibre reinforced plastic.
The Z4 GT3 racer is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 that churns out 473bhp, and has an ECU408 engine management system, with the unit mated to a six-speed sequential transmission with a "Quick Shift" function. Other performance features include a racing anti-lock braking system, a new front axle with a tubular stabilizer bar and adjustable blades, a roll cage, and "rims with central locking and safety clips."
According to BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, "The feedback on the BMW Z4 GT3 is extremely positive. This sports car rounds off our product range, and offers drivers and teams the opportunity to compete in championships in accordance with the GT3 regulations - such as the FIA GT3 European Championship, the International GT Open or the ADAC GT Masters - as well as at 24-hour endurance races."
