SMRT is working towards bringing over 600 Prius Hybrid taxis over the course of next year.
The Prius Hybrid taxis are perfect for city driving, as they offer class leading fuel efficiency amidst start-stop conditions and low average speeds during peak hours. They also provide low CO2 emissions of 92g/km. When driven in Electric Vehicle (EV) mode, hybrids are able to draw on the electric battery for an emission free commute.
This collaboration is an act of support towards the Clean Air policy set by both the Ministry of Transport as well as the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources which encourage the adoption of progressively cleaner fuels in the transportation sector.
With the increasing demand for hybrid cabs, these Prius taxis will contribute to achieving the national target of low annual ambient level of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) to 12µg/m3 and sulphur dioxide under 15µg/m3 by 2020 as well as the stringent air quality targets benchmarked to the World Health Organisation's Air Quality.
The safety of all SMRT taxi drivers and customers is also not neglected in choosing the Prius. All cabs are equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and seven SRS airbags.
This hybrid also boasts an incredible 445 litres of boot space, which can accommodate up to four luggage bags, and can be expanded to up to 1,120 litres with 60:40 split rear seats.
Local Toyota distributor, Borneo Motors, and SMRT Corporation have forged a strong partnership towards a cleaner Singapore with the delivery of the first batch of 18 Toyota Prius taxis by the former to SMRT last Friday.
