Chevrolet offers CNG option for Optra Magnum in Singapore

The new Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) was unveiled today, becoming the first CNG vehicle to be available direct from Chevrolet. Available in two 1.6-litre body variants, Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG Sedan (Auto) and Optra Magnum CNG Estate (Auto), it is the first original factory fitted car of its segment in Singapore with the CNG fuel system installed directly at the manufacturer.
Chevrolet offers these cars with a valid three-year/100,000 km standard warranty and 24-hour after-sales support.
Mr. Kittichai Jarusrojpoka, Managing Director of General Motors Overseas Distribution Corporation in Singapore, said,
"The arrival of the Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG in Singapore is well timed as drivers here are becoming increasingly conscious of the rising cost and environmental impact of petrol. These concerns are something GM has addressed directly with this car, as it is both easy on the pocket and the environment too." CNG is fast becoming an economical and environmental alternative to petrol, and at $1.18 per kg, compared to $1.944 per litre for petrol (prices are a rough estimate only, subject to fluctuations), it is easy to see why. CNG is also one of the cleaner burning alternative fuels - CNG-powered vehicles emit 85 per cent less nitrous oxide, 70 per cent less reactive hydrocarbons, 25 per cent less carbon dioxide and 74 per cent less carbon monoxide than similar petrol powered vehicles.
Bookings for the Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG are now available from Chevrolet dealers. Prices for the Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG Sedan (Auto) start at $62,688 and Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG Estate (Auto) at $65,488. Prices are inclusive of COE. There is also an early bird discount offer worth $1,000 for bookings from now till end May 2008.
Currently CNG car owners have the option to refuel at any one of the three refueling stations around the island - Jurong Island, Jalan Buroh and Mandai Link. Two more refueling stations are slated to open at Bukit Merah and Serangoon North Avenue 5.
