City Energy launches "fuss free" EV charging method in SG
17 Jul 2025|260 views
"No QR codes, no apps, no cards," City Energy promises, as it introduces Singapore's first app-free EV charging experience. The new 'AutoCharge' system simply requires the driver to plug in and charge their vehicle, with no additional steps required apart from a one-time registration setup on the City Energy Go app.
This is a more efficient method as compared to other existing EV charge points that require users to scan a QR code or log into a mobile app, especially in carparks with poor connectivity. City Energy states that its aim is to mimic the action of "pumping petrol", presumably to make the EV charging process more streamlined.
And I’m sure you're all wondering how does this work and how - alongside your vehicle - you'll also be charged for it. Users will first require the City Energy Go app, where they will have to key in their personal and vehicle details. Once done, a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) will be issued by City Energy Go, as well as the EV's Charge Controller ID (EVCC ID), which will be how the 50kW DC charging connector identifies the car.
That's it. A one-time setup, with an additional one-time step of plugging in the charger, plugging it out, and plugging it in again to let the system know that it is a deliberate action. Now, anyone using the car will be able to charge it at any City Energy Go charging point.
The only current downside is that for now, AutoCharge only works with these EV brands: Aion, BYD, Chery, MG, and Tesla. Rest assured, City Energy is working with other manufacturers to ensure broad support across a growing range of EV models.
This feature is also now available across more than 200 charge points in Singapore and Malaysia. At launch, the AutoCharge feature will be offered at five locations in Singapore: Pullman Singapore Hill Street, Klimt Cairnhill, Komo Shoppes, North Gaia, and North Park Residences, with plans in the works to progressively roll out the feature islandwide.
