Closing the loop on Circle Line in 2025 with three new stations
30 Oct 2015|2,220 views
The sixth stage of the Circle Line (CCL6), which will link up Harbourfront and Marina Bay stations, will have three stations: Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward.
This will close the loop of the line, as the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the alignment and station locations of the CCL6. The project will be completed by 2025. With the CCL6, commuters can enjoy a more direct route to the Central Business District, the Marina Bay Area and Harbourfront.
The Keppel station will be located along Keppel road near the Keppel Distripark. The Cantonment station will be sited near to the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, and offer access to the Spottiswoode Park Estate and Cantonment Towers. It will be built under a section of track platforms of the old railway station. The LTA, together with the Urban Redevelopment Authority, are in discussions with the heritage community on how this section of the old railway station can be preserved.
Meanwhile, the Prince Edward station will be located near Palmer Road and offer access to 76 and 78 Shenton, with heritage landmarks such as the Hock Teck See Temple, the Bestway Building and the Haji Muhammad Salleh Mosque, in the vicinity. These landmarks will not be affected by the CCL6 rail project, the LTA said.
