Is the honeymoon over? Or is this just a blip?
COE premiums have jumped up across all categories in this first bidding session for the month of March, after premiums for Cat B and E looked like they were set on a (largely) downwards trajectory since the start of 2026. Premiums for Cat B in particular, took a significant $9,001 jump this session in spite of the recently announced reductions to PARF rebates.
Those looking to secure a new car necessarily shouldn't be put off, however. This jump in premiums could be a result of more aggressive bidding spurred by dealers looking to secure the final COEs needed to meet orders placed during the motor show. Dealers here typically offer their cars with a a three-month guaranteed COE package, which should make this the second-last session available for many dealers on behalf of their customers who purchased their cars at the show.
