MRT train services will end later on Saturday night to cater to members of the public paying their last respects to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew at Parliament House.
The last MRT trains will leave City Hall, Raffles Place and Clarke Quay stations at about 1:00am instead of the usual around 11:50pm. The Land Transport Authority, SMRT and SBS Transit said in a joint statement on Saturday that the arrangement will allow the operators to carry out maintenance of the trains and tracks overnight so that MRT and LRT services can be ramped up during Mr. Lee's State Funeral Procession on Sunday.
All train services will run at shorter intervals of between three and five minutes from 11:00am till 6:00pm on Sunday.
In addition, night buses will also serve residents from areas likes Jurong, Bukit Batok, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Sengkang and Tampines. The 13 bus services will run on Sunday from 12:00am to 6:00am at intervals of 15 minutes. Five bus services - 32, 124, 145, 190 and 851 - will also operate till 6:00am on Sunday at 15-minute intervals to provide additional connections from the city to the residential areas.
