Ferrari has revealed the latest creation from its one-off series, the SP48 Unica.
The Ferrari SP48 Unica takes its name from the fact that it is the firm's 48th special project car. Based on the Ferrari F8 Tributo, the SP48 sports the same 701bhp twin-turbocharged V8 as the F8 Tributo, but sports a redesigned exterior.
The pattern on the front intakes has been repeated on the transition from the windscreen to the body on the roof of the SP48 Unica The taut lines and aggressive stance, alongside the arrow-shape front profile of the F8 Tributo have all been retained, however, the the head lights and brake air intakes have been resdesigned on the SP48 Unica.
The front grille and engine air intakes on the Ferrari SP48 Unica are said to have been designed with the use of procedural-parametric modelling techniques and 3D prototyping, and have been shaped to look like they have been carved from a solid volume for seamless continuity and dynamic fluidity.
This procedural graphic solution has also been adopted on the bodywork of the car, formulating the design of the roof, windows, and engine cover. These elements are said to come together to create a visor effect for the passenger cell of the car, with the elimination of the rear windscreen and reduced size of the side mirrors highlighting its powerful muscularity.
The air intakes for the engine on the front bumper and beneath the rear spoiler have also been optimised to maximise air flow. This redesign, Ferrari states, has allowed the SP48 Unica to locate an intercooler intake immediately behind the side windows, which in turn enabled them to reduce the dimension of the intakes on the flanks. The car also sports a longer rear overhang to reduce suction from the roof area, boosting rear downforce. A wraparound light bar also takes the place of traditional taillights here.
Ferrari states that the one-off SP48 Unica has been designed for a long-standing client who was deeply involved in every step of its creation.
