The new Escape is expected to be based on the Vertrek SUV concept car that was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January, and Ford has detailed the powertrain options for its new global crossover SUV.
The Escape will be offered with a choice of three four-cylinder petrol engines, including 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged units, as well as a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre Ti-VCT. Ford will not be offering a hybrid version of the Escape, claiming that the 1.6-litre powerplant will be even better than the current Escape Hybrid.
There will also not be a V6-powered Escape, and Ford says that the 2.0-litre EcoBoost version of the new Escape "will have better fuel economy than competitors’ V6 engines while delivering unsurpassed performance compared to those larger six-cylinder powertrains". All three variants of the new Escape will be offered with either front or four-wheel-drive.
The new Escape will be offered globally, like the Fiesta and Focus hatchbacks, and the car will make its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, which will be held from November 18 to 27. The new Escape will replace the current Escape, which is on sale in North America, as well as the Kuga crossover SUV, which is sold in the rest of the world.
