Ford, Honda, and BMW to launch new energy sharing platform
The BMW Group, Ford Motor Company, and American Honda Motor Co. have announced that they are entering into an agreement to create ChargeScape, a new, cost-effective platform that will connect electric utilities providers with electric vehicle customers and automobile manufacturers in the U.S.A and Canada.
The new platform promises to unlock the new value that electric vehicles can provide to the electric grid by enabling owners to earn financial benefits through various managed charging and energy-sharing services.
This will be done by giving electric utility providers access to the energy in electric vehicles and allowing electric vehicle owners to share the energy stored in their vehicles with the electric grid during times of peak demand through vehicle-to-grid technology, as well as rewarding electric vehicle users for charging at more grid-friendly periods.
The platform will additionally aggregate charging data gathered to allow electric utilities to better manage electric vehicle charging and maximise the use of high renewable energy. These moves will not only support greater grid resiliency, but will also aid electric vehicle owners to bring down their carbon footprint.
The formation of ChargeScape is pending regulatory approvals but is expected to be operational by early 2024. Other automobile manufacturers are welcome to join into the network, even after the firm has become fully operational.
