Ford has announced that series production of the all-electric F-150 Lightning has started at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Centre within Ford's historic Rouge Complex, in Dearborn, Michigan, U.S.A.
The firm states that it has received unprecedented demand for F-150 Lightning, with 200,000 reservations and is currently expanding the Rouge Electric Vehicle Centre to ramp up production to a planned annual run rate of 150,000 in 2023.
Ford states that it is ramping up production of the Ford F-150 to a total of 150,000 units annually in order to meet the high demand for the electric truck The Ford F-150 Lightning offers up to 555bhp and 1,050Nm of near instantaneous torque - more than any F-150 ever - allowing it to post a zero to 96km/h sprint time which Ford claims in the mid-four-second range when equipped with an extended-range battery.
Those more work-oriented meanwhile will be pleased to note that the Ford F-150 Lightning offers a 907kg maximum payload in the standard-range model equipped with 18-inch wheels, and a maximum 4,535kg of available towing capacity on XLT and Lariat trucks with the extended-range battery and Max Trailer Tow Package. A low centre of gravity meanwhile, will also bring confident handling whether traveling along rain-slicked roads or through sand.
Ford states that with the F-150 in series production, it is on track to deliver more than two million electric vehicles annually by 2026, equal to about one-third of the company's global volume. The firm is further targeting the proportion of all-electric vehicles to comprise 50% of its total sales by 2030.
