Ford and the Bronco brand are taking their desert racing expertise to a new level with this: The Bronco DR.
The Ford Bronco DR (short for Desert Racer) is a first-of-its-kind limited-production Baja 1000 SUV based on the Bronco four-door SUV.
Designed strictly for off-road use only, the Ford Bronco DR builds upon the already impressive capability of the production Bronco, bolstering that with a third-generation Ford Coyote 5.0-litre V8 engine that aims to generate more than 400bhp, as well as dampers and a safety cage from Multimatic, plus a host of other racing hardware upgrades.
Ford states that the racer's final specifications will be shared closer to the on-sale date, however, it does reveal that the car has been built to endure multiple days of torture over grueling terrain in the high temperatures of the Score Baja 1000 in Baja California, Mexico.
Compared to a four-door Badlands series Bronco, The Bronco DR is targeting 55% more front suspension travel, and 59% more at the rear for remarkable capability over nearly any terrain. A transmission from the F-150 truck will transfer power and torque to all wheels cia independent electronically locking front and rear differentials.
The Ford Bronco DR rides on 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain all-season tyres and beadlock wheels. The Baja-winning tyres feature an advanced Krawl-TEK compound for improved grip on rock and slick surfaces.
