A hotel tycoon has lost a suit against Trans Eurokars, the local dealer for Rolls-Royce cars. 51-year old James Koh Wee Meng, the man who started the Fragrance chain of budget hotels, filed a lawsuit against the dealer, claiming that the Phantom luxury sedan he bought was defective.
Justice Judith Prakash dismissed the claim after weighing expert evidence from both sides. The experts included Mr. Robert Matawa, an engineer at international testing and certification organisation TUV SUD Automotive, who tested six similar Phantoms and found Mr. Koh's car 'not defective'.
The TUV engineer had based his decision on Berwertungs Index (BI) - an evaluation index used by the automotive industry. Mr. Koh's car scored six on the index, which is average between the best of 7.75 and worst of 5.75 recorded during the tests.
