Just months after it first announced it would be collaborating with Seoul National University to open a research centre and advance battery technologies, Hyundai has now announced that it will be collaborating with Georgia Tech in the U.S.A.
This new collaboration will research and develop applications to support sustainable mobility in fields including the development of a hydrogen economy and smart and sustainable cities, amongst others.
The Hyundai Motor Group is also investing $17.2 billion (USD$12.6 billion) into new dedicated electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facilities in Georgia. This includes the $10.4 (USD$7.6 billion) Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America site that will create more than 8,500 direct jobs, and the $6.8 (USD$5 billion) billion battery manufacturing facility joint venture with SK that will employ approximately 3,500 people, both of which are also located in Georgia.
The Hyundai Group has a long history of operations in Georgia, with the Kia Georgia assembly plant having first began vehicle production in 2009.
