JAECOO 7 to make European dynamic debut at Goodwood

As we've already borne witness to in Singapore, Chery is getting more serious than ever about its expansion into international markets. And for the wider European market, it's even managed to lock down a highly sought-after spot for a market debut: At the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Specifically, the JAECOO 7 will be unveiled to the European public for the first time at a dedicated stand for the brand within the Festival's main 'The Grid' area, alongside as yet undisclosed models from sister brand OMODA (although our money is on either the OMODA 5 or E5). Interestingly, Chery states that the JAECOO/OMODA stand will even offer traditional Chinese soft drinks to visitors as they get up close with and learn more about the cars.
The JAECOO brand will even receive a honourable welcome to Goodwood - by none other than His Grace, the Duke of Richmond, on 11 July 2024 (next Thursday). And it's not just a static display that it has planned; Richard Attwood, former 1960's Formula One racing driver and 1970 Le Mans winner, is set to take on the hallowed hill climb with the JAECOO 7 in what will be the vehicle's European dynamic debut.
Based on a 'From Classic, Beyond Classic' philosophy, JAECOO states that its brand is rooted in innovation and aims to bring exceptional four-wheel-drive performance, world-class safety, and intelligent technologies into the same universe with its versatile SUVs. It also claims to blend the experience and craftsmanship of both European and Chinese teams, for a unique take on SUV-building.
Specification details for Singapore-designated units of the JAECOO 7 haven't been revealed yet, but it's interesting to see what Europe will be getting first. For starters, the SUV will be offered in both front- and four-wheel drive configurations. A purely combustion-powered variant with a 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four under the hood will be introduced to the U.K. first, before plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants follow at a later date.
True to its rugged claim, all-wheel-driven variants of the JAECOO 7 will boast a wading depth of up to 600mm, and approach and departure angles of 21 and 29 degrees respectively, with a maximum breakover angle of 200 mm. They will also feature seven driving modes including Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-road.
One cool trick that four-wheel drive models will also have up their sleeves (or chassises) is a Bosch-developed Integrated Power Brake (IPB) system, which simulates a differential lock with enhanced and faster locking capability. JAECOO claims the system is lightning quick - with the ability respond in less than 0.1 seconds.
Beyond just technical sophistication, Chery has grand plans for the rollout of the JAECOO and OMODA brands. The duo will be supported by more than 70 jointly-branded and franchised dealer sites at launch, with the number set to grow to 100 by end-2024. The first U.K. deliveries for the JAECOO 7 are anticipated around late 2024 as well.
