Buyers seeking a rugged-looking mid-size electric SUV now have another option to consider, thanks to the arrival of the 99kW (133bhp) Jaecoo J6.
The boxy SUV, a rear-wheel drive Cat A COE model, is currently priced at $169,888. Its more powerful sibling, which boasts 205kW (275bhp) and all-wheel drive, is currently listed at $201,888. Both prices are inclusive of COE.
The 99kW J6 made its debut at Jaecoo's 'Style-My-J6' media event, where six J6 models, which were individually customised with body kits and wraps by select members of the media and influencers, were unveiled.
Jaecoo Singapore says the exercise was a "celebration of personalisation and self-expression" and aimed to showcase the J6's styling potential to customers.
Aimed at drivers who prioritise efficiency instead of performance, the Cat A Jaecoo J6 can cover up to 507km, or 37km further compared to the Cat B model. It also averages 4.7km/kWh, versus 4.2km/kWh for the more powerful version, despite having a smaller battery (65.69kWh versus 69.77kWh).
Naturally, the 99kW J6 is slower than its sibling, taking 10.5 seconds instead of 6.5 seconds to hit the century mark. But this will hardly matter to drivers who prefer a relaxed drive and have no intentions of going off-road.
Other differences include a Pioneer audio system with eight speakers instead of an Infinity system with 12 speakers, and no massage functionality for the front seats (ventilated seats are still present, though). The electrically adjustable leg support is also only found on the driver's side instead of both front seats.
Guests were invited to 'marble' their own tray and coaster, and could print customised T-shirts, too
The good news, however, is that the 99kW J6 has all the safety features and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) found on the more powerful model.
That means eight airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control System (VDC), Emergency Brake Assist System (EBAS), along with Adaptive Cruise Control, Bling Spot Detection, and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), all remain standard here.
