Lamborghini is showcasing two important classic cars at the 40th edition of the Auto e Moto d'Epoca classic car show as part of its celebrations surrounding its 60th anniversary.
The classic car show, happening from until 29 October 2023, will host a Lamborghini Polo Storico stand showcasing the first Countach LP 400 produced, and the body of an Espada which is currently undergoing restoration.
The Countach, with chassis number 1120001, is said to be the oldest in existence. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on 15 March 1973, this car is said to be different from the first Countach produced, the LP 500 show car displayed in Geneva in 1971.
The Countach LP 400 is said to have been portrayed in a famous photo shoot while Chief Test Driver Bob Wallace was driving it to Sant'Agata Bolognese. It was thought to have disappeared after an LP 400 in Verde Medio green appeared, which many though was a second car. It was only when the car was found in Switzerland and taken back to Sant'Agata Bolognese for restoration work that it was discovered that the two cars were in fact one and the same.
The Lamborghini Espada, meanwhile, was the first four-seater produced by Automobili Lamborghini. It utilised a 12-cylinder engine and is said to have been able to ferry four in comfort while carrying a substantial amount of luggage. The car on display, chassis number 8824, was delivered in Milan in 1972 before being shipped to Japan. The car is undergoing a restoration by Polo Storico, and is being displayed in its bare sheet metal, complete with all the signs of machining. The car will be returned to its Japanese collector owner once restoration is completed.
