Lexus has announced that it has completed its move to its new headquarters at Shimoyama, a state-of-the-art, purpose-built development in a mountainside location in Japan.
For the first time in the brand's 35 years of existence, all Lexus operations – sales, marketing, planning – have been brought together under one roof, which also includes research and development and design, to foster a more efficient cooperation between the departments and a quicker delivery of development prototypes and production models.
Development work will also be further supported by the adjacent Shimoyama testing ground, which has been operational since 2021, and includes a high-speed course and a network of routes replicating differing roads and surfaces.
Lexus will also be joined by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing in the new Vehicle Development Building, constructed on the western side of the Shimoyama site, of which its ground floor houses a series a vehicle bays designed to emulate the pit garages of the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
Additionally, the Western area is also home to a visitor building giving guests the chance to interact with the cars close up. Maintaining the natural environment was also a prime consideration, and so approximately 60% of trees and greenery covering the site have been preserved, as well as creating new green areas.
