Maserati reveals details of the MC20's engine

Maserati has revealed the first details of the Nettuno - the engine that will power the new MC20 super sportscar.

The new power unit utilises six-cylinders in a 90 degree V architecture, with three litres of displacement and twin-turbocharging. It will also utilise a dry sump. Maserati's claimed output figures stand at 621bhp at 7,500rpm, and 730Nm of torque from 3,000rpm. The Maserati Nettuno also runs at a compression ratio of 11:1.

Maserati claims the new engine utilises technology derived from Formula One, such as the use of a combustion pre-chamber and laterally-mounted sparkplugs. A twin injection system (both direct and indirect) will also lower emissions and improve fuel consumption.

The unit was designed at Maserati's Modena facilities, the Maserati Innovation Lab on Via Emilia Ovest, and the workshops on Via Delle Nazioni. It was subsequently developed at Maserati's Engine Hub, situated at the famous Viale Ciro Menotti address, where it will also be built.

The MC20 super sportscar, the first Maserati to adopt the new engine, will be presented during the 'MMXX: The time to be audacious' event, scheduled to take place on 9 and 10 September 2020 in Modena, Italy.
