Maserati reveals new track-only, 724bhp MCXtrema

Maserati has revealed its new MCXtrema, an MC20-based track-only car.
Maserati states that the MCXtrema was designed to be a true racing 'beast', a product that would be different and disruptive compared to anything that has ever been done before - just as the Maserati MC20 was a 'first of its kind' model that marked a new era for Maserati.
Aiding this bold claim, the Maserati MCXtrema has received a new design practically unrecognisable from the MC20. At the front, the car now sports a sharp front nose and a sizeable front splitter, that latter to deliver downforce to the front axle. Aiding to further generate downforce here are aerodynamic channels on the bonnet that take the shape of the trident.
Aft of the roof scoop, a central fin also features, connecting to the large rear wing of the Maserati MCXtrema. The taillights at the rear have also been designed so they take the shape of a trident.
In the cabin, the Maserati MCXtrema gets a racing seat with six-point belts and a roll cage (both FIA-homologated). The car also gets an adjustable pedal box and steering column, and despite being a track-oriented vehicle, Maserati states that the MCXtrema retained its air-conditioning system, to assist driving performance by maintaining a flow of fresh air to the driver.
The screens in the cockpit can also offer different levels of brightness, and the labels on the console and steering wheel are said to be UV reactive to allow perfect visibility in all light conditions.
Powering the Maserati MCXtrema is the twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine, complete with Maserati's Twin Combustion system with its innovative pre-chamber combustion system as utilised in the MC20. However, here the engine has been upgraded with new injection and ignition mapping, alongside new turbochargers and a new exhaust system, so power is pushed up to 724bhp, and peak torque is now 730Nm.
Aiding the control of all this power on the track is a motorsport double-wishbone suspension, carbon racing braking system, six-speed sequential racing gearbox with a racing clutch as well as a mechanical limited-slip differential at the rear.
Only 62 examples of the Maserati MCXtrema will be built, all of which have already been sold.
