Mazda's growing lineup of crossovers and SUVs has welcomed yet another member in the form of the all-new CX-60, which officially rolled into Singapore on 21 July 2023, at VivoCity's Central Court 1.
If the name 'CX-60' sounds unfamiliar to you, fret not as your memory hasn't failed you. This is the first CX-60 ever to be produced by Mazda, and upon first glance, already differentiates itself slightly from the rest of the pack visually.
An evolution of Mazda's KODO design philosophy has materialised in a slightly squarer take on the front fascia we now immediately associate with its SUVs, lending the CX-60 a different air of aggression against other CX-marked models.
In particular, the front grille's adjusted aspect ratio emphasises its height more than on other Mazda models, while its signature wing neatly integrates the car's daytime-running lights, which also function as its indicators.
Although sitting in between the CX-5 and CX-8 in overall size, the CX-60 is actually wider than the latter, and also has larger tyres - 20-inches
Stretching out to 4,740mm in length, the CX-60 sits between the CX-5 and three-row CX-8 in size. Interestingly, however, the CX-60 has a wider body (1,890mm), and also rides on larger 20-inch wheels compared to the 19-inchers on the CX-8. A 2,870mm long wheelbase promises great legroom for all.
But comparing the CX-60 directly against them doesn't tell the full story about the fundamentally different car underneath.
If you've been paying attention, Mazda is in the midst of reinforcing its SUV offensive with an onslaught of all-new models in a strategy it's called the 'Large Product Group'. (The larger CX-90 has also been revealed thus far alongside the CX-60.)
With a focus on enhancing driving pleasure, as well as environmental and safety performance, a key highlight is that the Group introduces a new rear-wheel drive platform that can also be retooled for all-wheel drive variants.
In the sole variant sold here, a SkyActiv-G, 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine pumps out 188bhp and 261Nm of torque. This is sent via a newly-developed eight-speed transmission to the rear wheels, bringing the car to 100km/h from rest in 9.6 seconds. A Mazda Intelligent Drive (Mi-Drive) Selector allows drivers to toggle between Normal and Sport mode - the latter, for "more aggressive driving". The car gets a double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension system as standard.
Step into the CX-60 and one will also find a premium cabin - fine stitching runs across soft touch materials, while textured patterns and chrome accents abound here - that Mazda says "celebrates the living quality of Japanese craftsmanship". As revealed earlier, the interior is inspired by the Japanese concept of Kaicho, or the harmony that comes from mixing different materials and textures.
Across the cleanly-designed dash, twin 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment centre display and driver's instrument screen greet the front occupants. The latest version of Mazda Connect on the CX-60 supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.
To support its claim of improved driving pleasure, Mazda says even space in the driver's footwell was taken into account, with the accelerator and brake pedals falling at the driver's feet in a manner to create a more ideal driving position. New seats also provide better body support, with seat mounts that are more rigid than before.
As for safety, the CX-60 is fully loaded too, offering features such as Blind Spot Monitoring, a Lane Keep Assist System, and Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alerts.
Other standard equipment includes Mazda's latest generation 360 degree camera (with a 'See-Through View'), a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a panoramic roof.
While the Soul Red Crystal seen in these pictures has become the signature colour we associate Mazda's cars with, the CX-60 comes in seven other colours - including an all-new Rhodium White, Mazda's third signature colour derived from its 'Takuminiuri' painting technology. (You'll find this on the car we drove - which you can read more about in full here!)
Other exciting news? Mazda Singapore is starting an exclusive 'lifestyle program' that it is now offering complimentarily and exclusively to buyers of the CX-60. Dubbed 'DEZIRE+', the program is meant to enhance the journey of Mazda ownership through a suite of leisure and dining privileges, as well as invitations to curated events.
Other than getting to see the CX-60 up close, visitors can also explore leasing options for Mazda's range at VivoCity (till 23 July 2023)
Finally, local dealer Eurokars Group has also announced that its Mazda range is also available for lease via its subsidiary, Eurokars Leasing. Leasing terms start at three (plus two) years under the 'Comprehensive' plan, while the more cost effective 'Lite' plan can be opted for in either five or seven-year stretches.
The Mazda CX-60 is now on sale in Singapore, and is retailing with a launch price of $278,888, inclusive of COE. The car can be viewed up close from now till 23 July at VivoCity's Central Court 1, and is also available in Mazda's Ubi and Leng Kee showrooms.
